Jalen Brunson is undoubtedly one of the star players in today’s NBA. He successfully brought his team, the New York Knicks, to second place in the Eastern Conference.
People don’t really compare Brunson to other stars. Still, recently, he was asked about his game plan when his opponent is one of the basketball league’s greatest players.
Brunson was featured with interviewers from the NBA. The two-time NCAA champion was then shown a clip of the legend Kobe Bryant when he acquired the record for the second-highest points made in one match.
The reporters then asked the Knicks star what he would do when facing the five-time NBA champion himself.
“How would I stop Kobe? Me, personally, I would call timeout and tell the coach to put someone else on him.”
The 2024 NBA All-Star instead chose to recognize his limitations compared to the departed Bryant. It’s a good sign that even if Brunson is a skilled ball player, he will refrain from engaging in acts he can’t achieve.
“I know my limitations, for sure.”
Before this impossible question, Brunson was asked how people like him could make offensive plays without being stopped. He said that it isn’t a thing that would happen instantly, but rather, it’s a slow process that should not require any form of rationality by the player.
Apparently, for the Villanova Wildcats’ alumnus, a player’s hot hands will only occur when the person “switches” into being one in an unknown moment. Nothing else would matter when it had successfully shifted, and the shooter would think nothing but to make points.
An example is when Brunson scored a career-high 61 points against the San Antonio Spurs last season. Or when he had scored 40+ points and 5+ assists in four consecutive playoff matches.
Jalen Brunson continues to lock in for the upcoming season.
Brunson and the New York Knicks will return from their unfortunate loss last season. Ending in second place, they fought against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, winning six games.
However, in seven games, they ultimately lost to the Indiana Pacers in the semifinals.
The 2024 All-NBA Second Team member’s fate during the playoffs was shocking. Despite leading the Knicks’ scoring multiple times, fate halted his “zone” by fracturing his left hand, eliminating his chance of playing in the momentous Game Seven against the Pacers.
Brunson has now recovered from his injury. Next season, he plans to “lock in” as he continues to show offensive dominance in the games. The Knicks would definitely rely on their star once more.
