New York Knicks star Julius Randle hasn’t seen any NBA action since January 27. It has now been over a month that the three-time All-Star has been sidelined by a dislocated shoulder. The Knicks have been understandably cautious about bringing their franchise power forward back as they look forward to a long and fruitful postseason run.
New York head coach Tom Thibodeau recently provided an update on Randle’s status, and there’s a lot to be excited about for Knicks fans.
Optimistic Update on New York Knicks Star Julius Randle
Unfortunately, Randle hasn’t been cleared for full contact as of yet. However, Coach Thibs notes that his conditioning has been “good.” This comes via Knicks reporter Ian Begley of SNY:
“He’s shooting, doing individual work, that’s all good. He can do 5-0; that sort of thing. Light contact with the pads,” Thibodeau said.
Randle has been an All-Star in three of the last four seasons, including this one. In 46 appearances for New York this term, he’s averaging 24.0 points on 47.2 percent shooting, to go along with 9.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists, while also knocking down 1.7 triples per game.
What’s Next for Randle?
Thibodeau was unable to provide a firm timetable for Randle’s much-anticipated return. According to the tenured shot-caller, Randle still needs to clear a number of hurdles before he is cleared for contact.
“It’s him feeling better. You’ve got to continue to strengthen the shoulder and go from there,” Thibodeau said.
The good news, though, is that Randle is expected to join his team in their upcoming four-game road trip, which starts on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
