The New York Knicks just got ousted from the 2024 NBA Playoffs, but that doesn’t mean that business is over for them. The offseason brings an opportunity for the Knicks to shore up their roster and find ways to improve areas that need to be addressed.
Trading for a superstar like Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George could potentially be part of the Knicks agenda in the summer.
Paul George to the New York Knicks?
For Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, George can be the primary trade target of the Knicks, who fell prey to the Indiana Pacers in seven games in a recently concluded second-round series.
George would fit this roster like a tailored suit. He is essentially a turbo-charged version of OG Anunoby, providing similarly suffocating defense with a wider offensive arsenal that works in both primary and support roles. There is a malleability to George’s game that isn’t often seen with stars, and it allows him to make a significant impact all while avoiding stepping on the toes of other elites around him.
As an added bonus, if George let it be known that the Knicks were his preferred destination, then a trade maybe wouldn’t deplete their asset collection the way most star-level acquisitions would.
George has a player option that’s worth $48.7 million to decide on before June 29. If he and the Clippers can’t get an extension done, Los Angeles could seriously look into the option of parting ways with George via a trade. The Knicks already have Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle but adding someone like George to their roster would certainly bolster their chances to finally deliver a title to the Big Apple after decades of waiting for one.
