Jalen Brunson made himself an even more adored figure among the New York Knicks faithful after he decided to give the team a $113 million discount on his contract extension. The All-Star point guard did this in order to afford the Knicks more cap room flexibility with the ultimate objective of competing for a championship in the near future.
Knicks icon Carmelo Anthony has spoken out about Brunson’s incredible gesture, which apparently, isn’t something Melo himself would have done.
New York Knicks: Carmelo Anthony Speaks Out on Jalen Brunson’s $113 Million Discount

Anthony recently guested on Paul George’s podcast and the pair discussed Brunson’s decision to leave more than a hundred million dollars on the table. While Melo somewhat understands why Brunson did what he did, the 10-time All-Star admitted that he would have taken a different route.
“I’m not doing it,” he said on Podcast P regarding the deal Brunson took. “… He’s making something [on the back end]. He should be making something, $113 million, to make that up on the back end is crazy. I don’t know the logic and the thinking behind why he did it. There has to be a reason, something very specific.”

Both Anthony and George agree that Brunson should get what’s coming to him soon enough. He may have made a significant financial sacrifice now, but the two are adamant that the Knicks will reward Brunson for his loyalty down the road. Or at least they should.
