The New York Knicks have not hidden their predilection for former Villanova Wildcats players. They currently have four players from the Big East program, including their best player in the form of Jalen Brunson.
They also have Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, and their latest Villanova acquisition, Mikal Bridges, who was traded to the Knicks by the Brooklyn Nets last July.
The Knicks have recently come into an agreement with another former college player, but someone who’s not a product of Villanova. Surprise!
According to Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks have agreed to a two-way deal with former Kansas Jayhawks star guard Kevin McCullar Jr.
The New York Knicks and Kevin McCullar have agreed to a two-way contract, league sources told @hoopshype. McCullar earned All-Big 12 First Team honors this past season at Kansas. He was also named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors in 2023.
McCullar spent his final two seasons in college with Bill Self’s Jayhawks. During his time in Lawrence, McCullar averaged 14.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 45 percent from the field. He is a big guard who can do a little bit of everything on both ends of the court, making him an enticing plug-and-lay prospect in the NBA.
McCullar, who played his first three seasons in college with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft before his rights got traded to the Knicks on draft night.
