New York Knicks star Julius Randle is done for the season. After putting in a ton of work in rehab in an attempt to get back to full strength, it has now been determined that the three-time All-Star will need to undergo surgery to address his dislocated right shoulder.
Randle himself has now broken his silence on this massive turn of events, and he’s now dropped a bombshell about re-injuring the shoulder during practice five weeks ago.
New York Knicks News: Julius Randle Reveals Pivotal Moment That Led to Surgery Decision

As it turns out, Randle was already making significant strides in his road to recovery. This was until he suffered an unfortunate setback during a full-contact practice session more than a month ago.
This report comes via NBA insider Chris Haynes of NBA on TNT:
“I want everyone to know that I did everything in my power to get back this season,” Randle told Haynes. “That was my intention — to be playing right now. That’s why I didn’t opt-in to surgery when it happened.
“But what caused [him] to finally go through getting surgery, he said, about five weeks ago, he went through a full contact session and he re-injured the shoulder. His shoulder never was the same,” Haynes said.

Haynes went on to say that Randle is now “at peace” with his decision to go under the knife knowing that he no longer had a chance to get back on the court this season.

It remains unclear what role the Knicks played in Randle’s devastating setback. We also don’t know if Randle may have taken on a full-contact session earlier than he should have and if that played a role in the 29-year-old reinjuring his shoulder.
At this point, Randle is expected to make a full recovery. He will be re-evaluated in five months, which puts him in line to be ready for the start of the 2024-25 season.
