A familiar face showed up Thursday night at Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks play the visiting Sacramento Kings in a marquee East vs. West matchup between playoff contenders, and it was no other than Stephon Marbury.

Even though it feels like an eternity has passed since the last time he donned a New York Knicks uniform and played at the Garden, the crowd inside the arena still gave Marbury a warm welcome.

Marbury surely is loving the reception he’s getting in New York. He even posted the following on Instagram Story along with a view of the Garden: “Thank you for bringing me back home with love. Will never forget this moment in life.“

Marbury played for five seasons with the Knicks from 2004 to 2008. He led the Knicks in Win Shares in each of his first two seasons in New York. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Marbury had a sort of homecoming when he was traded by the Phoenix Suns to the Knicks for a package that included Howard Eisley, Maciej Lampe, Antonio McDyess, Charlie Ward, and Milos Vujanic.

During his stint with the Knicks, Marbury averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game across 287 games.

Marbury surely must have enjoyed the Knicks-Kings game, as New York prevailed to the tune of a 120-109 score. Jalen Brunson top scored for New York, finishing with 35 points to go with 11 assists, while Josh Hard mustered 31 points, nine rebounds, an eight assists.

The win over Sacramento snapped the Knicks’ three-game losing skid and also improved their chances of securing a spot inside the top six in the Eastern Conference.
