Back in the NBA offseason of 2022, the New York Knicks had the dream of landing then-Utah Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. But the Cleveland Cavaliers won the Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes as they successfully traded for the former Louisville Cardinals star.
New York Knicks may not be interested in Donovan Mitchell anymore

This time around, the Knicks are again among the teams linked to a potential Mitchell trade, as he will be entering the final season of his current deal before a player option potentially kicks in for the 2025-26 NBA campaign. However, the interest in Mitchell for the Knicks may not be as intense as it used to be two years ago.
Via Fred Katz of The Athletic:
If Mitchell were to hit the trade market again this summer, league sources say the Knicks would not be as enthusiastic in their pursuit of him — and that’s because the situation has changed.
Brunson is a star now, and Mitchell, though he’s had the best seasons of his career in Cleveland, has not shown he can fit perfectly alongside a score-first point guard who commands the ball often. The Cavs offense can devolve into your turn, my turn with Darius Garland, who regressed this season. Their defense is consistently near the top of the league because they employ the best rim-protection tandem in the Eastern Conference.

Brunson is clearly the established leader of the Knicks. Adding another ball-dominant player like Mitchell who’s playing basically the same position as Brunson to New York’s current core could do more harm than good to the Knicks, all things considered.
