The New York Knicks are enjoying a dominant stretch of basketball under Tom Thibodeau. Ever since he took over the team in 2020, the team has enjoyed a stretch of outstanding basketball with a squad that’s willing and able to implement his gritty and exhausting brand of basketball.
While their latest attempt to snag the Larry O’Brien trophy ended in heartbreak, there’s plenty of optimism for the squad in the coming season. Some of the optimism is linked to the offseason moves, such as keeping OG Anunoby and trading for Mikal Bridges, but much of it comes from how well the team is running under Thibs’ guidance.

It made sense that Thibodeau was due to get an extension after leading a team without a productive forward like Julius Randle to Game 7 against the Indiana Pacers. Knicks fans who waited with bated breath on his contract status can finally breathe after the two parties agreed to fresh terms.
New York Knicks, Tom Thibodeau agree to new 3-year deal to push the team to the NBA title

Knicks insiders confirmed what many fans hoped would happen: Thibodeau signed a three-year extension with the team after his superb leadership as the team’s head coach over the past couple of seasons.
Thibs only had one year left on his current deal with the team, so the renewal came at the right time as it will allow the long-time Knicks fan to focus on helping his favorite team win their first title in 51 years.
Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press listed Thibodeau’s achievements that further explain why signing a new deal with the Knicks was a no-brainer for both parties:
Thibodeau has twice been voted NBA Coach of the Year, including in 2020-21 after leading the Knicks to the playoffs in his first season. They went 50-32 last season, their best record since winning 54 games in 2012-13, and fell one game shy of reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000.
While everything’s all and good for the Knicks, a bad run of form can quickly turn the narrative and see Thibodeau out of a job. The ball is now on his court to keep the good times rolling and lead the team to their first NBA Finals since the 90s.
