The New York Knicks, thanks to Coach Tom Thibodeau, went to the semi-finals of the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs even with a depleted lineup. Excitement is in the air at the Big Apple as basketball fans imagine of what they could have been with a complete roster.
Giving where the credit is due, the Knicks are reportedly expected to extend the contract of Coach Thibodeau. According to ESPN’s Mark Stein, the defensive-minded coach should get an extension worth $10 million annually.

“There was a strong expectation [at Summer League] that a contract extension for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau will be announced in the near future…Has been regarded for weeks as a lock to receive a new deal that pays at least $10 million annually,” said Stein through the social media post of New York Basketball.

The current contract of Thibodeau with the Knicks is around $7 million annually and it is already seen as a low-value contract compared to what his contemporaries like Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr and Erik Spoelstra are getting.

New York Knicks officially sign Cam Payne
The New York Knicks indeed finished the 2023-24 season on a high note, with the hopes of having a good future ahead of them. In retooling and addressing their weaknesses to beat their current finish, the team has been active in free agency at the trade market.
The team made a huge splash by trading from Mikal Bridges, letting him reunite with his Villanova teammates in Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson. The team still has big man Julius Randle ready to serve the Knicks again after sustaining a season-ending injury.
Adding more pieces to the core. the Knicks also beefed up their guard rotation by signing Cam Payne in free agency. This movie was formally announced by the team’s press release.
“The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed Cam Payne,” said in the Knicks PR release. “Payne, 29-years-old (6-3, 183-pounds), averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds over 16.7 minutes in 78 games (10 starts) last season with Milwaukee and Philadelphia. After being traded to Philadelphia on Feb. 8, Payne posted 9.3 points, 3.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds over 19.4 minutes in 31 games (eight starts).”

The Knicks may have lost backup center Isaiah Hartenstein stepping up in the playoffs with Randle and Mitchell Robinson at the injured list but they have added more firepower to the rotation.
