Nikola Jokic’s brother found himself trending for the wrong reason. Strahinja Jokic was caught on video punching another fan in the stands during a playoff game between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers on April 22 at Ball Arena. The video went viral, and he was charged with third-degree assault, according to Shelly Bradbury of the Denver Post.
Strahinja appeared at Denver County Court on Wednesday after the victim chose to press charges. The victim also reportedly suffered a concussion and facial injuries.
The court also issued a protection order so that Strahinja would distance himself from the victim. He is expected to return to court in October to complete the fingerprinting process.
NBACentral recently shared the latest development on the case of Nikola Jokiic’s brother.
Strahinja was also previously charged in 2019 with assault for pushing and choking a woman, even preventing her from contacting the police. He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge for blocking the phone call. He also had a trespassing violation, but the charge was dropped because he would follow unsupervised probation and refrain from committing any crime within the following two years.
Nikola’s wife could also be seen in the video trying to calm her brother-in-law while carrying her child. Strahinja argued to the police that the incident occurred due to him defending his older acquaintance that time. The rest of the Jokic family has yet to comment on the incident.
Nikola Jokic’s teammate says his brother is ‘humongous’
Michael Porter Jr., Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets teammate, recently shared his thoughts about the incident involving the Serbian center’s brother. In an episode of his “Full Send” podcast, Porter discussed the altercation between Strahinja Jokic and a fan during their playoff game against the LA Lakers at Ball Arena.
“Have you seen Joker’s brother? He’s humongous,” Porter said. “They said one of the fans, like a Lakers fan, was talking to him or whatever, chatting [him] a little bit, and then Joker’s brother came over the bleachers and just, like, punched him.”
That game was the second of the first-round matchup between the Nuggets and the LA Lakers, with Denver advancing their lead to 2-0 after a 101-99 win. Nikola Jokic finished that game with a triple-double: 27 points from 56.3% shooting, including 50% from the three-point line, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists.
While Nikola’s win was spectacular, his brother Strahinja might have made a bigger headline that night.
