Nikola Jokic is the only thing consistent about the Denver Nuggets right now. The others? There’s a lot of work to do.
Currently at 12-10 and outside of the Top 6, the Nuggets 2024-2025 season is a rollercoaster ride for everyone. They will bask in Jokic’s brilliance one day and then get frustrated by a loss they have no business losing.
That is just what’s seen on the TV but there is a bigger problem the team is facing not seen on public media – the conflict between key personnel. The worse part is that it is dividing the players themselves, too.
The report came out shortly after the team lost to the Washington Wizards despite the three-time MVP’s 56-point game. They recovered right away with the beatdown of hot team Atlanta Hawks with Jokic being just his unmatched self with 48 points.
NBA analyst Harrison Wind suggested that there might be a conflict between coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth. He even described it as “a real thing.”
There have been a lot of things bubbling under the surface for the last two seasons. It feels like it has all been building and it’s coming to a head now. You’ve got the Jamal portion of it, you’ve got the Calvin Booth-Michael Malone conflict, which has been a real thing. I’ve even heard that it has bled over to the locker room. It’s gotten to a place where players are torn in that two-sided thing.
The report did not say which players are taking sides.
Rumbling in Nuggets organization
ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported back in late October that there is a brewing trouble within the Nuggets organization.
It has a lot to do with the office’s decision to trade away Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who was a centerpiece of their 2023 championship run.
The report said Malone, even Jokic, was not in favor of letting go KCP.
“Rumblings! That the coaching staff and front office, or at least the head coach and the front office, aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye in Denver. To a degree even unusual for the NBA.”
