The Denver Nuggets got back to their winning ways on Saturday with a 129-103 demolition of the Utah Jazz in Mile High City. Denver took care of business in that game despite missing the services of star point guard Jamal Murray, who did not suit up after he entered the NBA’s concussion protocol.
A recovery timetable for a concussion can be tricky to ascertain, but according to Denver head coach Michael Malone, Murray could be out for up to a week.
Coach Malone said Jamal Murray (concussion protocol) did some cardio tonight. Plan is to see how he responded to that. Malone said the Nuggets will be cautious with Murray. Malone thought it might be 5-7 days.
“As much as we want him back his well being is most important.”
Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray sidelined by a head injury
Murray sustained the injury in last Friday’s 119-116 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves after colliding with big man Julius Randle. In the Jazz game, Denver opted to start Russell Westbrook at the point guard position in lieu of Murray, but the former NBA Most Valuable Player scored just five points on a poor 2-for-11 shooting from the floor.
Fortunately for the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. both had big games, as they scored 27 and 20 points, respectively, with the former adding 16 rebounds and nine assists in a near-triple-double performance.
The Nuggets have four games scheduled in the coming week, all at home beginning with their hosting of the Toronto Raptors on Monday.
