Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook has joined the growing list of NBA players who courageously express their frustration of media, confronting reporters face-to-face for the way he has been treated over the years.
Respectfully opening the topic with “no offense to you guys” while speaking in the microphone, Brodie, who is loved by his peers, called out the media for the way he is being portrayed by many TV and social media personalities.
“The media has portrayed to be somebody that I’m not,” he started.
He then went on to say that he accepts that that is how things work.
“Unfortunately, that’s the world we live in. I always stay true to myself, stay grounded. Stay humble. I wouldn’t make it this far. Not by accident.
Westbrook also discussed the role he’s earned through basketball and that he is not someone created to be a people-pleaser.
God, he din’t put me in this position to please or appease other people. To be fake. To be politically correct because that’s not me. I’m human. I’m thoughtful. I make mistakes. I have human reaction like everybody else.
The media hasn’t been that kind with Westbrook ever since his MVP year in 2016. His worst years was when he became part of the Los Angeles Lakers that some NBA media personalities even called him a locker room cancer.
Russell Westbrook joins Kevin Durant, Lebron James in sour relationship with media
Westbrook is second NBA player this week to call out media over the way their do their job.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James announced that he is leaving social media temporarily because of its toxicity.
His former teammate Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns also confronted Stephen A. Smith for being a clown for always being on his tail.
NBA insider Brian Windhorst is on the side of the players.
People are too focused on tweets, too focused on guys getting crossed-over, guys getting dunked on, guys getting embarrassed, social media posts. Not as much on storytelling, learning about players and learning their backgrounds, what I call chronicling the season.
Naturally, Smith, as well as Emmanuel Acho are being defensive.
