Coach Moser Hit’s the Portal Running
Following a disappointing end to the season, Coach Porter Moser hit the transfer portal adding 6 new additions as well adding 3 freshman to the roster. Oklahoma entered the season with 6 returners but none bigger than Jalon Moore who was a major contributor last season averaging 11.2 points per game on 51.7% from the field and adding 6.7 rebounds a game. He was a 2023-2024 All Big 12 Honorable Mention and quickly became a fan favorite for the Sooners.
Oklahoma’s Leader
This year may be a little different because of the star 17 year old freshman Jeremiah Fears. He is leading the team while averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists a game. He surpassed his season high in points last night when they took down #24 ranked Michigan in their most impressive and hard fought win on the season. Fears led the way with 30 points and the game winning and-1 three which pushed the Sooners to an 87-86 victory. Duke Miles followed behind adding in 17 points and going 5/11 from the field.
Key Transfers this Season
Oklahoma’s transfers have made major contributions to the Sooners. The biggest contributors so far have been Kobe Elvis from Dayton, Duke Miles from High Point, Glenn Taylor Jr. from St John’s, and Brycen Goodine from Fairfield. This veteran group of seniors have all had key performances in win’s so far this season. Elvis led the way in scoring against Providence with 26 points on 10/14 shooting from the field. Duke Miles had a key performance against Michigan with 17 points and sensational defense. Glenn Taylor Jr. had his best game of the season against Louisville producing 12 points, 3 rebound and suffocating defense. Brycen Goodine had a great performance against Georgia Tech with 11 points on 3/6 from distance. These four guys have the experience and ability to solidify this Sooners team as a top ranked team this year
SEC Conference Play
This squad looks unstoppable so far but conference play is when you find out what team’s are the ‘real deal’. Oklahoma will have to play some top teams like #6th ranked Alabama on January 4th or #12th ranked Texas A and M on January 8th. The Sooner’s schedule in February isn’t any easier, they play the two top ranked programs in basketball so far. The Auburn Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers. The SEC is one of the top ranked conferences in college basketball and the question we will find out soon enough. How legit is Oklahoma basketball?
