The expectations are sky-high for the Oklahoma City Thunder ahead of the 2024-25 season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a big reason behind their status as big-time contenders for the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Still, Sam Presti has also done a marvelous job in providing SGA with a talented young roster that can promise up to a decade of high-flying basketball. From Chet Holmgren who can shoot from deep and defend the interior to key role players like Isaiah Hartenstein and Lou Dort, the Thunder has a competitive roster that can hold its own against the league’s best.
Despite the impressive roster they have built, Alex Caruso takes the cake as a key cog who can transform the team into a championship-winning team. His acquisition from the Chicago Bulls raised the expectations set for the Thunder.
One analyst rates Caruso’s potential impact with the Thunder that he even made a bold claim about the two-way guard’s immediate future after a full season with the squad.
Analysts believe Alex Caruso can win Sixth Man of the Year with the Oklahoma City Thunder
Athlon Sports’ Andrei de Guzman wrote a piece that has analysts make an extremely early prediction on which players would end up as the Sixth Man award. The panel believe that Caruso is in the right situation to finally win the award.
De Guzman wrote a compelling argument that explains why he’s going to win the award:
He logged 233 out of 363 games as a reserve throughout his professional career. And in his past three seasons as a member of the Chicago Bulls, he often embraced being the leader of their bench unit.
Caruso is a phenomenal role player who can take over whatever role Mark Daigneault would require of him. Last year, he averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks a game for the Bulls. His performance might be the missing link who will help the Thunder finally make their first Finals appearance since 2012 and win the top prize.
