Not that it was a surprise, but the Oklahoma City Thunder have a big reason to celebrate after Wednesday’s 118-112 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden in Beantown. After all, the Bolts officially clinched a berth in the 2025 NBA Playoffs with that victory, and to do it against the reigning league champions surely made the night even more special for Chet Holmgren and company.
Like the Celtics, the Thunder also have a big target on their back, as they are one of the best teams in the league right now. They own the top spot in the Western Conference standings with a comfortable 12-game lead over their rivals in the west, thanks to a 54-12 record.

After the game, Holmgren said that the Thunder are still getting better as they continue to adjust and improve their knowledge about the game and themselves amid the challenges thrown at them by their opponents.
“We learn from those instances, so we’re always continuing to get better,” the former Gonzaga Bulldogs star said (h/t Nick Gallo). “I think our team next game is going to be better than our team was today.”

The Thunder had a hot start to the Boston game, scoring the contest’s first nine points. They also built a 12-point lead in the third quarter, but the Celtics refused to go down that easily. Oklahoma City needed an 8-0 blast in the fourth quarter to pull away from the host team and come away with its 54th win of the season.
Most Valuable Player contender Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showed the way for the Thunder with 34 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while Holmgren produced 23 points, 15 rebounds and two assists.
