It is perhaps safe to say that Gordon Hayward’s stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder is not going to go extend beyond the 2023-24 NBA season.
A pending unrestricted free agent, Hayward voiced out his frustration with regard to his usage in Oklahoma City, especially during the playoffs. After the Thunder got bounced out of the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs by Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, Hayward lamented the minimal minutes he was given by the Thunder.
Gordon Hayward’s wife gets triggered by Oklahoma City Thunder GM’s comments
On Tuesday, Thunder general manager Sam Presti said that the trade the team made to get Hayward before this year’s deadline was basically a mistake on his part. That seemingly did not sit well with Hayward’s wife, Robyn, who made a blunt comment on Instagram (h/t Clemente Almanza of The Thunder Wire).
“Why trade for someone and not play them? … missed it by not integrating him,” Robyn said in a comment

In any case, it seems that Hayward’s time with the Thunder is over. Given the feelings of each side, it’s unlikely that Hayward would stay in Oklahoma City. If he is to continue his journey in the NBA, it will have to be on another team. It will be interesting where he lands next, considering he just turned 34 last March and didn’t seem to boost his stock during the playoffs in which he scored a total of zero points in 46 minutes across seven games.
