The Oklahoma City Thunder have some money to spend in the offseason. They have projected practical cap space of over 35.2 million for the 2024-25 season, which means a chance for them to make some upgrades via NBA free agency. Some people in the NBA seem to believe that Oklahoma City will look to shore up their frontcourt by adding a big body in the summer. Among the names floated to be a potential target by the Thunder on that end is New York Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein.
Isaiah Hartenstein, a potential Oklahoma City Thunder target in 2024 NBA free agency

The 26-year-old Hartenstein could provide the needle muscle around the basket for the Thunder and someone who could complement Chet Holmgren as well.
Via HoopsHype:
“Rival executives are monitoring the Thunder as a potential team in the free-agent center market this summer, with several names available, such as Nic Claxton – who can potentially command over $20 million on the market, as noted by HoopsHype – Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jonas Valanciunas, who’s not expected to return to New Orleans.”
The Thunder have two centers on expiring contracts in the forms of Mike Muscala and Bismack Biyombo. It appears unlikely that the Thunder will re-sign either guy and it also seems to make more sense for the team to add a better option like Hartenstein than keep Biyombo and Muscala.
Hartenstein was a key reason why the Knicks managed to survive up to the second round of the playoffs despite a banged-up roster. In the 2024 postseason, Hartenstein provided quality minutes for New York, as he averaged 8.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 59.2 percent from the field.
That could be enough for Hartenstein to earn a big payday in the coming summer.
