Only a few people can stop Shai GIlgeous-Alexander from overpowering opposing defenses. The 26-year-old superstar is putting up MVP-worthy numbers as he leads the Oklahoma City Thunder to a strong 16-5 record in a stacked Western Conference.
When the Thunder played the Toronto Raptors, everyone and their mother knew that the game was OKC’s to lose. Not only is Shai one of the MVP frontrunners this season, but Sam Presti has put together an incredible Thunder squad that can overwhelm any team that tries to take them down.
Shai was front and center of the Thunder’s offense as they overpowered Toronto. However, the biggest talking point for some NBA fans is his personal thoughts on how the NBA Cup is being run.
Oklahoma City Thunder hands the Toronto Raptors their biggest loss of the season
The Raptors did everything they could to stop the Oklahoma City Thunder from running away with the win. However, Shai proved too much as he led all players with 30 points to see the Thunder through, 129-92.
The Canadian superstar was efficient, shooting 50% from the field in the 29 minutes he was on the floor. His four rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block added further value to the game. The only knock on his game at the Scotiabank Arena was his terrible 1-for-10 from long distance.
While the Thunder is still not at full strength due to Chet Holmgren’s absence, the rest of the Thunder picked up on the scoring: Jalen Williams had 20, Isaiah Joe finished with 16, and the bench pitched in with Kenrich Williams, Ajay Mitchell, and Aaron Wiggins scoring in double digits.
Meanwhile, RJ Barrett, Jonathan Mogbo, Gradey Dick, and Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 17, 17, 15, and 12 points respectively.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander doesn’t think the NBA Cup is being run properly
Shai knows that he has great influence as one of the league’s premier players, and people will listen whenever he has something to say about the sport.
His most recent NBA-related comment is about the NBA Cup, where he thinks it’s not being run properly.
Per Mark Nillon of Thunderous Intentions:
Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also was quite blunt with his response to whether he’s been following the potential different scenarios with the other Cup games being played, admitting that he hadn’t been because “It’s all too confusing.”
It doesn’t give a good look to the in-season tournament when one of the stars who make the tournament exciting doesn’t have a clear idea of how the competition is played out.
Since the NBA is a pro sports league driven by its stars, the in-season tournament organizers would look into SGA’s complaints and assess whether changes must be made to the competition.
