Unlike LeBron James and Team USA‘s current success in the Olympics, the United States 3×3 team ended in disappointment after Jimmer Fredette got injured. After news of his injury broke out, the former NBA star and college standout received a massive outpouring of support.
Fredette, the former college basketball star and NBA veteran, has suffered a significant injury while representing the United States in the 3×3 basketball event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. As it stands, he has torn two ligaments in his adductor, sidelining him for approximately six months.
Fredette’s injury is a major blow to the short-handed American 3×3 team, which was knocked out of medal contention after a 21-6 loss to the Netherlands. The team had struggled in group play, dropping their first four contests before managing to beat France and China to give themselves a chance to advance.
Despite the team’s disappointing performance, Fredette remains positive, stating that he is a “firm believer that everything happens for a reason.” He acknowledged the devastation of the injury, having put two years into qualifying for the Olympics with his “brothers” on the team, but expressed gratitude for the support and love from fans.
The 3×3 basketball event at the Olympics has been plagued by several high-profile injuries, including Spanish badminton standout Carolina Marin’s knee injury, which forced her out of a semifinal match. Fredette’s setback is among the most serious of the games so far, and it will be a significant challenge for the American team to overcome his absence in the remainder of the tournament.

“King jimmer 👑” jackperry43 expressed.
Fredette’s prime occurred during the 2010-11 Men’s Mountain West Conference season when he averaged 28.9 points on 39 percent shooting from deep, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists for the BYU Cougars. While his college run was more notable, the shooter’s stint in the NBA has been quite mediocre with averages of 6.0 points over the course of six seasons.
It remains to be seen whether Fredette can bounce back and play professional ball after his six-month recovery period is done. If he ends up becoming better, expect the college standout to prove his worth down the line.
