Kevin Durant has elevated his legacy to another level after becoming the United States’ all-time leading scorer in the Olympics. In response, WNBA icon Lisa Leslie shared her thoughts on the Phoenix Suns’ star and how he broke her old record.
During the quarterfinal game against Brazil, Durant surpassed Leslie’s record of 488 points, finishing the game with 489 total points over his four Olympic appearances.
Durant, who is bidding to become the first men’s player to win four Olympic gold medals, has been a dominant force for the U.S. team. He is one of only five U.S. players with at least 300 points in Olympic competition, joining the likes of Diana Taurasi, Carmelo Anthony, and LeBron James.
The 35-year-old All-Star forward has attributed his longevity to the hard work and dedication of the training staff in keeping his body ready. His efficiency and scoring prowess have been praised by his teammates, including Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, who called him “one of the most efficient players that ever played this game.”
In addition to the scoring record, Durant has also become the U.S. career men’s leader in rebounds in Olympic play, surpassing Anthony and David Robinson. With his sights set on a fourth gold medal, his legacy as one of the greatest Olympic basketball players continues to grow.
