Orlando Magic Forward Franz Wagner led Team Germany to an 85-71 win over France in their group phase contest on Friday. Wagner and Dennis Schroder dominated the host team after scoring 26 points apiece. Aside from scoring, the Garman star also added five rebounds and two assists to his résumé to prevent the French from taking advantage in the final minutes of the game.
In recognition of Wagner’s performance, the FIBA’s official account shared an image featuring his face in a parodied logo of the internet content subscription service OnlyFans, cleverly coined “OnlyFranz.”
OnlyFans became a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the platform it provided for users to earn money, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. While men and women use the platform, it was mostly women who made the most of the service, selling photos, videos, and other personalized content that can go from subtle to explicit.
Orlando Magic fans blast FIBA over social media blunder
The “OnlyFranz” post put unnecessary focus on Franz Wagner, and it didn’t take a while for fans of the Orlando Magic forward to criticize FIBA and ridicule basketball’s global governing body.
One disgusted fan called the organization “Freaky FIBA.” After seeing the post, another fan said, “This is crazy,” while another left an emphatic “WHAT?”
After receiving considerable backlash from disgruntled fans, FIBA took the post down.
Germany wins Group B after win over France
The German contingent displayed high-level basketball in the Olympic tournament. France couldn’t stop the blitzkrieg that silenced Victor Wembanyama to only 14 points.
The reigning FIBA World Cup champions look like a real threat to Team USA and are poised to quash their dreams of Olympic gold.
After winning all the games in their group, Germany and Canada are headed to the knockout stage. Team USA still has to play against Puerto Rico to determine its final standing in Group A. Following tomorrow’s slate, it will be easier to see which teams have a closer shot at the gold.
Wagner had a strong season, leading the Orlando Magic to the playoffs, and he is looking to do the same for his national team.
