The Orlando Magic are making moves. Entering free agency as one of the teams with considerable cap space available, the Magic wasted no time adding a key player for what they’re hoping will be a deep playoff run this coming season.
This comes in the form of now-former Denver Nuggets shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is reportedly on the brink of signing a three-year, $66 million deal with Orlando.
Orlando Magic Set to Sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
The opening hours of NBA free agency have been quite a roller-coaster ride. The Magic took part in the festivities by making a major splash in the market.
According to NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic, Caldwell-Pope has agreed to terms with a Magic on a huge deal:
“Kentavious Caldwell-Pope intends to sign a three-year, $66 million deal with the Orlando Magic, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Massive pickup for the rising Magic, acquiring the starting shooting guard of two NBA title teams,” Charania reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Caldwell-Pope, who spent the past two seasons in Denver, was a sought-after name in free agency. The reigning Western Conference champs Dallas Mavericks was another team that was linked to a potential move for the 6-foot-5 guard.
The Nuggets, however, reportedly had no intention of helping a West rival, which likely meant that they were willing to block a potential move to the Mavs. Losing KCP is a tough blow for Denver, but the silver lining for them is that at least he’s headed out of the conference.
