UConn huskies superstar Paige Bueckers recently talked about how she pushes her teammates to be better, with one person in particular: Ashlynn Shade, who was Big East Freshman of The Year.
In a post-game press conference, Bueckers shared how she helps push her teammates to strive further and push their boundaies on the court, particularly with Shade.
“Just to see her hard work all the time; coach gets on her, I get on her, the whole team needs her to be like that on the defensive end,” she said. “So it was just like to see it was amazing, super proud of her, and that’s what we want Ashlynn to be every single night.”
She also further explains that she wanted to push Shade to become better, and to challenge her—and that seeing her excel makes her feel proud as a fellow Huskies.
“So to just instill that confidence within her, that this is what she does, and that’s who she is now that she showed it,’ she added. Super proud of her just wanted, like as much as I want to challenge my teammates, I want to support them too. So, when she performs like that, I want to give her the acknowledgment. And yeah, she was just flying around, being everywhere tonight.”
The UConn Huskies are set to host North Carolina on November 15.
Paige Bueckers as 2024 WNBA Draft First Pick?
Rumors of UConn Huskies Paige Bueckers becoming the 2024 WNBA draft first pick is no longer new. Not only this would be her last college basketball season, but she has delivered an extraordinary performance so far, becoming the UConn star player.
In their most recent game against South Florida, Bueckers contributed 22 points for the overwhelming victory of 86-49.
As the senior and the leader of the Huskies, Paige addresses how she sets an example to her younger teammates, who will eventually take over once she graduates from the program.
“I’m just trying to set the tone with how hard I play,” Bueckers said. “Trying to be disciplined on offense and defense, take great shots, get the ball moving, get everybody involved. Make sure everybody is playing together. I’m very picky with what I’m doing right now because I’m showing the younger guys what we’re supposed to do here.”
Right now, the Huskies opened the season with a good standing of 2-0. As this would be the final year of Paige Bueckers with the team, fans are expecting that they would work hard to get the championship this season.
