A 40-year-old man pleaded guilty to stalking UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers on Wednesday. He was arrested back in August by the Connecticut State Police when he was seen walking near Bradley International Airport in the town of Windsor Locks.
The man named Robert Cole Parmalee pleaded guilty to second-degree stalking at Rockville Superior Court. According to police reports, his intentions were to meet Bueckers in the hope of proposing to her and getting her expelled from the university.
A Grant Pass, Oregon native, Parmalee was handed a one-year suspended sentence and three years of probation, during which he is prohibited from entering the state of Connecticut. He also needs to comply with recommendations set for his mental health treatment.
In addition, the court also ordered Parmalee to stay away from any venue where the UConn women’s basketball team is staying or playing. He has also been banned from all WNBA arenas and training facilities.
Paige Bueckers’ attorney gave out a statement about the matter on her behalf.
“My client had requested that (Parmalee) return home, get the evaluation and treatment that he needs, and that she be left alone,” said Bueckers’ attorney Robert Britt. “We’re very happy with that.”
Paige Bueckers looks forward to their showdown with USC
Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies are hyped up about their upcoming matchup against JuJu Watkins and the USC Trojans on Saturday. The game promises to be a highly-contested showdown between the two schools.
UConn and USC have identical 10-1 records going into the game on Saturday and will be looking to score their 11th victory at the expense of their opposition. Both teams secured their respective 10th wins prior to going head to head this weekend, with the Trojans dominating Elon on Sunday, 88-30, and the Huskies defeated Iowa State on Tuesday, 101-68.
Bueckers and Watkins also seem eager to lead their respective teams to an important win. The Huskies guard is averaging 20.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.0 rebounds, while the Trojans guard is averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. Bueckers is shooting 58.4% from the field, while Watkins shoots 45.4%.
The tip-off is scheduled at 8 p.m. ET at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and will be telecast on the Fox network. However, there are some fans who are unhappy with the game’s schedule as it coincides with some hotly contested NFL matchups and the College Football Playoff.
NFL Saturday will see the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, for college football, Ohio, Jacksonville State, Florida, Indiana, Tulane, and Notre Dame will all also be playing crucial playoff or bowl games that weekend.
