Paige Bueckers‘ selection as the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft was more than just a personal milestone—it was the culmination of years of hard work, resilience, and standout performances. And no one has seen that journey more closely than her UConn teammate and close friend, Nika Muhl.
Muhl, along with fellow UConn alums Aaliyah Edwards and Azzi Fudd, was front and center at the draft to support Paige Bueckers on her big night. After the ceremony, Muhl posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing:
“4,281 miles to support the homies INDEED <3”

Bueckers didn’t miss a beat, replying in the comments with a simple but touching message:
“My twin is the best ever.”
As Bueckers gears up for her WNBA rookie season in Dallas, she’ll soon find herself on the opposite side of the court from her former teammates. Edwards and Muhl were both drafted last year—Edwards to the Washington Mystics and Muhl to the Seattle Storm—setting the stage for some emotional on-court reunions.

Luka Doncic Trends After Dallas Picks Paige Bueckers
Paige Bueckers’ arrival in Dallas comes at a unique time for the city’s sports fans, many of whom are still processing the blockbuster NBA trade that sent Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis earlier this year.

Naturally, social media had a field day after the draft.
“Close enough. Welcome back, Luka Doncic,” one fan joked on X (formerly Twitter), referencing the similar swagger and star power between Doncic and Bueckers. The tweet has since gone viral with over four million views.

Another user added:
“What if we all just moved our support from the Dallas Nico’s to the Wings? Paige could be our new generational 15-year athlete—the one we keep, love, and root for no matter what.”
The Dallas Wings finished 11th in the WNBA standings last season. But with Bueckers as the new face of the franchise, there’s a surge of hope—and pressure—as the team begins a bold new chapter.
