Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer appear to be the coolest and most hands on NBA team owner right now with his presence at the Intuit Dome but Patrick Beverley has a personal gripe with him.
Beverley’s best time in the NBA is probably with the Clippers and at one point, he was rewarded with a huge deal the organization – three-year, $40 million extension and something more.
The deal includes Ballmer spending for 92 basketball courts that the veteran point guard would want to build around Los Angeles. So where are these courts now?
Beverley said Ballmer did not fulfill his end of the bargain.
“I take the 3-year $40 million from the Clippers. We go to the meeting at the Ritz in Marina Del Rey, and we agree to the three-year 40. And Steve Ballmer goes ‘With that. I’m going to give you 94 basketball courts that you could choose to put all around LA,'” said Beverley who played four seasons with the Clippers.
How many were built? Just two.
“That’s fire as f**k. I think they built two of them and then COVID hit. So I hit my agent, like, what’s up with those 92 basketball courts? I see they just built the arena worth 2 billion. … I need 92 more courts.”
Patrick Beverley, Clippers reunion?
Beverley found a home in the Clippers and became a fan favorite for his hustle and being their “dog” against powerhouse opponents.
He recently revealed that he is considering returning to the NBA following the collapse of the core of his team in Israel.
Hapoel Tel Aviv is without a big man after deciding to sign with a Serbian team. This prompted Beverley to reconsider his time in Europe. He said there are NBA teams contacting him.
“This week has been kind of tough for us because our big man, Jonathan Motley, all of a sudden, my boy hit us with the pump fake, said he don’t feel safe no more, leaves team,” he said in his self-titled podcast.
“Our leading scorer, the best big man in EuroCup, wants to go to a Euroleague team in Serbia. So now, we just out here with no big man just like, ‘okay, where do we go from here?’ So, of course now people ask me, ‘Ayo Pat, what you going to do?’ because some NBA teams called, they told me I can’t say who,”
A Clippers return might be a possibility as the team needs a back-up point guard who can play defense.
