It’s been a fascinating career for Patrick Beverley so far. The point guard may not have won a title with any of the teams he’s been on, but fans who watched him play can attest to the grit and hunger he displayed whenever he was on the floor.
The journeyman point guard has joined plenty of outstanding rosters ever since winning over Jeremy Lin’s starting spot with the Houston Rockets in the 2012-13 season. His journey has taken him to cities all over the country, with his latest stop being Milwaukee.
The outspoken floor general has since left the NBA to join Hapoel Tel Aviv in free agency, and some think that this is the seasoned point guard’s farewell from NBA basketball.
However, he recently came out with another hot take that may put him in hot water with his new team.
Patrick Beverley claims to pack his bags and leave Hapoel Tel Aviv if the city gets involved in Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Like almost every American, Beverley is aware of the geopolitical tensions in the region, specifically between Israel and Palestine.
He certainly had the conflict between the two states in mind when he signed a contract with his current team, and he made his thoughts clear on his course of action should the fighting between the two countries reach Hapoel’s home city.
Per Fadeaway World’s Aaditya Krishnamurthy:
“Safety is important. If a bomb goes off, I’m gone… We don’t play a lot at home. But most of our EuroCup games are in Bulgaria.”
The fact that the team doesn’t play many home games is probably one of the biggest reasons why Beverley agreed to sign with the team. While it’s highly unlikely that the fighting will reach Tel Aviv, it’s clear that even the man himself is wary of the situation happening over there.
Until that happens, Patrick Beverley will be focused on bringing his signature brand of basketball to the team. While his numbers with the Bucks isn’t much to write home about—he averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 26 regular-season appearances—he will still be one of the team’s better players.
Whether Pat Bev would be able to use Hapoel Tel Aviv as a springboard to mount an NBA comeback remains to be seen, but fans will wish him the best with his career.
