Philadelphia 76ers’ Paul George opened up about Anthony Edwards’ controversial statement about the playstyle of NBA players during Michael Jordan’s era. The rising star has attracted the attention of many league veterans, including George, who took a stance on the ongoing debate.
Edwards sparked a heated debate at the last Fanatics Fest about his insight into Jordan’s era, implying that His Airness is the only player worth noting over others due to his unique achievements.
George was disappointed over the Timberwolves guard. In his “Podcast P,” the nine-time NBA All-Star delved into Edwards’ opinion. The nine-time NBA All-Star then called the heated take as “immature.“
“I thought it was kinda disrespectful for the game. I thought it was a very immature comment. Obviously, Anthony Edwards is super talented, and he’s a huge talent going forward. But just how much the game has grown, you gotta pay dues to those dudes that did it before us,” George said.
People often call Edwards one of the stars of the current generation of NBA players due to his unique game style and offensive capabilities. He provides his team with many, often crucial, points.
Recently, the two-time NBA All-Star scored his first Olympic gold medal.
However, the former Georgia Bulldogs decided to rough talk his predecessors during the 1980s and 90s, when Jordan’s fame shone.
His explicit belief of MJ as the only “best” during his era insulted many, even NBA legends, who challenged His Airness multiple times.
George, who entered the NBA long before Jordan’s era, showed through his particular insight that he recognized the legacies left by players other than MJ.
For the 76ers forward, the upcoming faces of the basketball league, like Edwards, should pay attention to the playstyles of their precursors that contributed to the present.
Paul George is not alone in expressing disappointment in Edwards’ contentious statement
Paul George is just one of the many NBA players, former or not, who shed light on the Timberwolves’ star’s controversial take.
One of those is Kevin Garnett, the 2008 NBA champion. Like PG, Edwards’ statement disheartened the Big Ticket.
Garnett gave additional insights regarding the performance of the current generation of NBA players, contending that these youngsters would not “survive” if they played during MJ’s era due to its uncompromising focus on competitiveness and athleticism.
MJ’s batchmates expectedly joined the controversial fray, such as the Lakers legend Magic Johnson and Detroit Pistons’ Isiah Thomas. They both expressed fury over Edwards’ disrespect for the two NBA legends and their lasting legacies on the court.
