Paul George had a scary injury in the middle of the Philadelphia 76ers’ preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday. The 76ers’ star forward/guard was defending Hawks forward Jalen Johnson when he hyperextended his left knee, causing him to writhe in pain on the floor and have his fans worrying for his safety.
NBA insider Shams Charania shared an update on George’s health status, citing multiple reports that he didn’t sustain a career-threatening injury.
“Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George has a bone bruise and no structural damage to his left knee and will be re-evaluated in approximately one week, team says,” Charania reported.

Monday’s game against the Hawks was only George’s second preseason game. He played 12 minutes before suffering the injury, finishing the game with only eight points and two rebounds. The Sixers won, 104-89.
The following day, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse opened up about the concerns raised regarding Paul George.
“PG was here today,” Nurse said on Tuesday. “Got looked at again. Everything checks out okay. They are going to do some further imaging this afternoon, see if there’s anything else. He’s in good spirits. A number of the vets didn’t practice today, coming off of a late night. But we’ll see what happens with imaging.”

The Sixers star is expected to miss at least a week to heal up in time for the regular season.

Paul George still optimistic despite the injury scare
Paul George had fans concerned following the injury he suffered on Monday. Fans weren’t up to speed regarding the severity of his injury, but the six-time All-NBA forward gave a positive update on his status following his early exit from the game.
A Philly Inquirer reporter had an opportunity to talk with George, who was seen walking around with a sleeve over his injured knee. The reporter asked him about his knee, to which he said “he is not too concerned” with the prognosis.
Chatted with Paul George in the postgame locker room. He had a sleeve on the knee but was walking and said he is “not too concerned” about the prognosis. Will get treatment on it tonight and proceed from there. More coming later.

The 76ers will need George back in full health before the 2024-25 NBA regular season begins. It would be their hope that their star forward will be ready to play by Oct. 23 when they host their season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Paul George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in his final season with the Clippers. The nine-time NBA All-Star switched conferences over the summer after deciding to opt out of his $48.7 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. He signed a four-year $212 million deal to join the Sixers.
