Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George expressed his faith in his team and confidently proclaimed that the Sixers are still going to make it to the playoffs despite their struggle and terrible standing so far this season.
To say that the Sixers had it tough this season may sound like an understatement. Not only that they sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with the Washington Wizards, but they were also plagued with injury problems for their strongest players, and a supposedly closed-door locker room conversation was also leaked, further placing unnecessary stress and pressure on the team. Despite this, Paul George believes that his team can bounce back, and even squeeze their way in for the playoffs.
In an interview, courtesy of the Sixers Wire, George talked about the things they can change to turn the tables in their favor, and how the team can regain their morale and recover from the early-season struggles they had.
“Just our effort and energy,” he said. “I think that’s one thing that we can control. Obviously, with big fella out, myself, Tyrese, just joining back, getting his rhythm. I mean, obviously, we’re a little limited, but I think what we can control is just our effort, our energy, and just doing things a little harder, but we’ll change this. We’ll change this around. I’m 100% betting down on that that we’ll change this.
He added: “It’s on us. We got to control what we can.”
Paul George was supposedly going to play his first seasons for the Sixers but reported injury woes prevented him from fully utilizing himself for the team so far. Coming from the Los Angeles Clippers, the Sixers signed George with the hopes of building a monster trio around him, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. However, the plan did not pan out, with all three players hampered by their respective injury issues.
Paul George Plans to Return to The Court Next Week
With his injury status looking better, Paul George is looking to be back inside the court next week, although it would still ultimately depend on the status of his knee injury.
“Obviously, we haven’t quite cleared it, but that’s the mindset that I’m targeting,” he said. “The way the knee’s been filling and the workouts have been going. Hopefully, within a week, I’ll be ready to go.”
Talking about his injury, Paul George believes that having such as recurring issue is a huge setback, and being forced to stay out of games is frustrating, but he believes he is “getting stronger, been working on everything I need to work on and kind of get back into the mix.”
