As the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, speculation is abundant regarding which young talent will turn professional and how teams will draft accordingly. Among the prospects generating considerable buzz is VJ Edgecombe, a standout guard from Baylor University, who is predicted to be selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the fourth overall pick.

Edgecombe’s electrifying athleticism and solid skills on the court make him a top candidate for the draft. His performance during the NCAA tournament this season has drawn attention, showcasing his ability to contribute significantly, even under the highest pressure situations. Playing for a well-recognized program like Baylor has further amplified his visibility, setting the stage for a promising professional career.

Over the past season, Edgecombe has demonstrated remarkable scoring capabilities, averaging 15 points per game while also excelling in assists and rebounds. His all-around game not only highlights his prowess in scoring but also reflects his commitment to team play. This dual-threat ability to shoot and facilitate has made him a coveted prospect heading into the draft.

The Pelicans, who are looking to build a stronger roster around their young core, view Edgecombe as an ideal addition. His versatile skill set and high ceiling mean he could seamlessly integrate into the team’s plans, providing depth and athleticism. New Orleans has a pressing need for dynamic players who can create their own shots and help shift the momentum in critical game moments.

If things go according to plan, the Pelsn may find themselves selecting Edgecombe in the upcoming draft. This is detailed more in a mock draft analysis by Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo for ESPN.

After a miserable start to the season, the Pelicans are 6-6 in their past 12 games, in no small part because of the return of Zion Williamson from injury. But that might not be great news for their lottery odds.

There is a pack of teams directly behind New Orleans that would move it into a different tier of drafting a prospect depending on how the draft lottery plays out May 12. A player such as Edgecombe would be an exciting addition, giving them two of the most explosive athletes in the game when paired with Williamson.

Draft analysts project that selecting Edgecombe could provide the Pelicans with a significant advantage as they aim for a playoff run. His development at Baylor underscores the potential for growth as he transitions to the professional level, where he can hone specific skills to elevate his game further.

Edgecombe’s rising stock as a top NBA prospect aligns well with the New Orleans Pelicans’ needs. As the draft approaches, the anticipation surrounding his selection only intensifies, with fans keen to see how he will contribute to the team’s future endeavors.
