Penn State women’s basketball celebrated a historic victory on Sunday, defeating No. 9 Ohio State and ending a 4,174-day drought without a win against a ranked opponent. The thrilling triumph marked the Lady Lions’ first win over a top-10 team since 2012, showcasing their growth in college basketball.

Penn State achieved a significant milestone by defeating No. 9 Ohio State with a score of 62-59. This victory marked the Lady Lions’ first win over a ranked opponent since 2012, ending a lengthy drought that lasted over 4,174 days. The triumph was not only a boost for the team’s morale but also a testament to their resilience throughout a challenging season.

Gabby Elliott led the charge for Penn State, scoring 14 points, including a critical go-ahead layup with just over two minutes remaining. Her performance was complemented by contributions from teammates Jayla Oden, who added 13 points, and both Moriah Murray and Gracie Merkle, who chipped in 12 each. This collective effort helped the Lady Lions snap a seven-game losing streak, showcasing their determination against a formidable opponent.

The game unfolded dramatically, with Ohio State initially taking control and leading for much of the match. However, as the fourth quarter progressed, the Buckeyes struggled offensively, hitting only two of their final twelve shots. Penn State capitalized on this downturn, demonstrating poise and teamwork when it mattered most.
