Joel Embiid has not featured in an NBA game for the Philadelphia 76ers since January 30. The reigning NBA MVP tore the meniscus in his left knee earlier this season and has since been working extremely hard to get himself back to full strength in anticipation of a return to the court toward the postseason.
It now appears that all the hard work is going to pay off for both Embiid and the Sixers.
Philadelphia 76ers Could Get Joel Embiid Back This Week
The most recent update on Embiid is that he has joined the Sixers for their current two-game road trip, which ends on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors. The 7-foot center is not playing on Sunday, but according to team reporter John Clark of NBC Philadelphia, “there is some home” that Embiid will be able to return to action sometime this week (h/t NBACentral on Twitter).
Philly now has just seven games remaining in the regular season, and they have been adamant that their superstar big man would be able to play in at least a couple of contests before the Play-In tournament starts on April 16.
The fact that the Sixers now appear to have a target date set for Embiid’s return, albeit still somewhat ambiguous, is an undeniably massive development.
Philadelphia returns to action on Tuesday in a home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder before embarking on a three-game road trip. They will battle the Miami Heat on Thursday before heading out West to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.
If these rumors are true, then Embiid will likely be back on the court in either one of those two road games.
