There is barely anything great about the Philadelphia 76ers of late. They are losing games and dealing with a banged-up roster. Their best player, big man Joel Embiid continues to have issues with his knee to the point many are wondering whether the 76ers have to make the call about sitting him out for the rest of the 2024-25 NBA season.
According to four-time NBA All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins, Embiid needs to shed some weight in order to help address his durability issues. Embiid weighs 280 pounds, according to his profile on NBA.com.
“I think you should lose 40. Being at that size and weight— in the league today—it doesn’t really help you, Cousins said via FanDuel’s Run It Back show (h/t Legion Hoops). You don’t have to go out there and be this huge, physical guy anymore.”
Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid continues to struggle with health issues

In a way, Cousins knows what he’s talking about because he’s someone whose career in the NBA was greatly affected by injuries. When he was healthy, Cousins was one of the most devastating forces on the court in the NBA.
The same can be said about Embiid, who is just two years removed from winning the NBA Most Valuable Player award in the 2022-23 campaign. However, he appeared in only 39 games the following season and just 19 so far in the 2024-25 campaign for the 76ers, whose playoff hopes are getting dimmer each day.
