All-Star wing Paul George expressed disappointment after being left off the 2024 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team. The Philadelphia 76ers star had hoped to represent his country at the Paris Games, but ultimately did not make the final roster.
In a recent interview on Carmelo Anthony’s podcast, George revealed that he had been in discussions with Team USA head coach Steve Kerr about potentially joining the squad. Kerr had approached George following a game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors, asking if he had any interest in playing for the national team. The Sixers star then agreed to join and took Kerr’s offer with the expectation that he was already part of the group.

However, when George’s representatives later reached out to USA Basketball to confirm his inclusion, they were informed that he had not been selected. George said he then found out on social media that he was not among the players chosen for the Olympic team.
While George was disappointed to miss out on the 2024 Olympics, he acknowledged the difficult decisions facing Kerr and the USA Basketball staff in assembling the roster. With a wealth of NBA talent to choose from, some deserving players were bound to be left off the final team.
Philadelphia 76ers Star Paul George Reveals How He Was Snubbed From Team USA

During the NBA playoffs, George ran into USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill, who told him the decision simply “didn’t work out” this time around. George explained more in an episode of Anthony’s 7PM in Brooklyn, a Wave Sports + Entertainment Original, as seen in the podcast’s official YouTube channel.
“I understood it, like I’m not going to be sorry about it, but at the same time it was like damn, I was looking forward to representing the USA and being part of that team,” George said.
The 33-year-old forward had previously played for Team USA, winning a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He said that experience was “a blast” and helped him grow as a player.

George will now turn his focus to helping the 76ers contend for an NBA championship next season. Though he won’t get the chance to represent his country in Paris, the veteran remains one of the league’s elite two-way players and a perennial All-Star.
