Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George was greeted with boos in his first road game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Intuit Dome, and he called their reactions “stupid” during the postgame interview.
According to the nine-time NBA All-Star, who also received a cool video tribute, he doesn’t understand why they’re jeering him, given what he has done for the franchise in the last five seasons.
“It is stupid,” George said via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “I mean, I was a free agent, you know what I mean? It wasn’t something that I demanded a trade or went against the team here. I was a free agent. The team presented something that was team-friendly, and I did what was best for me in that situation.
“So there were the cheers. I appreciate them. Those were the ones that I played hard for. The boos, I didn’t get it. I still don’t get it when I go (back) to Indy, but it is what it is. It’s sports. I look forward to next year being back here and more boos,” he concluded.
Paul George arrived in LA in 2019 via a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to join forces with Kawhi Leonard, hoping to win an NBA title. However, injuries ruined them, and they only have one Western Conference Finals appearance to show.
The former NBA steals leader left to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a four-year, $212 million max contract in free agency after failing to come to terms with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Philadelphia 76ers’ slump continues in LA
The Philadelphia 76ers dropped their fourth consecutive game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday with a score of 110-98.
Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr. led Philadelphia in scoring with 18 points each, but that wasn’t enough, as they were dominated in the second half.
The Philadelphia 76ers also lost Tyrese Maxey during the game, as the point guard sustained a sore right hamstring. The NBA Most Improved Player of the Year awardee finished with 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting from the field.
