The Philadelphia 76ers have suddenly become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference following their recent moves. Of course, there’s the blockbuster Paul George acquisition, but they also added veterans Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond via two-year deals.

The signing of Andre Drummond is important since he’ll serve as the backup center for Joel Embiid, a role he has played in the past few seasons. Because of this, Paul Reed’s future with the franchise is in jeopardy, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“Paul Reed’s future with the 76ers was in jeopardy the moment they suffered a first-round loss to the New York Knicks. Two months later, signs are pointing towards him being part of their past,” Pompey wrote in his column.
“The reserve center is reportedly expected to be waived or traded as the Sixers explore the free-agent market and potential trade options to land another forward,” he added.

Reed is coming off his best regular season campaign in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform, averaging 7.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 54.0 percent shooting in 82 regular-season games. However, he struggled in the playoffs, averaging only 1.5 points and 2.7 rebounds on 44.4 percent shooting in 7.2 minutes per game.
Waiving Paul Reed would free up $9.2 million in cap space for the Philadelphia 76ers, a viable option if they can’t find a trade for the 25-year-old.
Philadelphia 76ers’ other free agency/trade targets
The Philadelphia 76ers are far from done this summer, as they aim to strengthen their forward depth this summer, hopefully, with the help of $9.2 million in cap space created by Reed’s potential departure.

Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer also noted that the team is interested in trading for Dorian Finney-Smith or adding Haywood Highsmith and Reggie Bullock via free agency on cheap deals.
