The Philadelphia 76ers lost another game last night, this time to the New York Knicks. They lost in overtime 125-119.
They were once again without Joel Embiid, who has missed six games in a row. Without Embiid, Philly is 8-18, which is very telling.
The injury bug has plagued the Sixers for yet another season. Almost the entire team has missed games this season, and it’s hard for them to create chemistry because of this.
Jared McCain tore his meniscus and is out for the season, which was a major hit in terms of the scoring. McCain was likely to win the illustrious NBA Rookie of the Year award.
Paul George has had lingering knee injuries throughout the year, and that’s detrimental to someone who’s already aging.
Role players like Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin, Kyle Lowry and KJ Martin have also missed multiple games due to injury.
Why A Rebuild Is Necessary
Philadelphia’s original rebuild is known to the masses as “The Process” but it has been processing way too long. It never quite loaded correctly.
The 76ers have had their fair share of bad injuries, bad play, bad management and just pure bad luck. Something has to give eventually, and that eventual time is now.
Everyone besides Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain should be available for trade. They are the only two players on Philly that have major potential.
Trading Joel Embiid sounds crazy, but he’s been there for a decade and nothing has come out of the tenure. It’s just been years and years of disappointment for the Sixers.
A good trade package could come from Embiid being dealt. Philadelphia needs draft capital to prepare for a bright future, if they want one.
Even Nick Nurse, who is a championship winning head coach, is a shell of himself now. Moving on from him will do the Sixers justice as well.
Tank The Rest Of The Reason
Only being two games out of the play-in tournament sounds optimistic, but it’s definitely not pleasing.
This team was supposed to be a championship contender, and they’ve been nothing but a pretender.
Tanking the rest of the season and securing their top 6-protected first round pick could be the best option for Philly. Getting a player like Ace Bailey to pair with Maxey and McCain could set a nice future up for the franchise.
Philadelphia needs a factory reset. A clean sweep of the front office, coaching staff and roster is needed. As crazy as it sounds, they are due for a massive change such as this.
The fans of the 76ers are tired. It shows as ticket sales have plummeted and the losses have piled on. It’s looking very bleak in the city of brotherly love, and it’s just been the feeling of misery.
