In case you weren’t aware, Tyrese Maxey is the future of the Philadelphia 76ers. the 23-year-old guard has blossomed into a vital contributor to the Sixers’ success with his speed, shiftiness, and ability to score almost anywhere on the court.
While his partnership with Joel Embiid is doing wonders for the team’s postseason hopes, his efforts weren’t enough to stop the New York Knicks from overwhelming them in six games.

While many were questioning the team’s future after another early playoff exit. However, their fortunes quickly changed when they managed to get Paul George in free agency. Now that they finally have a third star to rely on, Maxey can focus on improving his skills and taking the team to a higher level.
His offseason work quickly showed during the signing of his extension, which the fans and the league took notice of. The change was so radical that Maxey made a hilarious joke about his transformation.
Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey reveals he got drug tested after signing his contract extension with a bulkier build

Maxey showed up to the signing of his contract extension with a much better build than the slight frame he played with last season. It was clear that the Kentucky alum quickly hit the weight room once his team’s season was over.
While 76ers fans were happy with the progress their star guard has displayed, the league seemed a little suspicious of the sudden glowup.
Per Sports Al Dente’s Christopher Kamila:
Maxey tweeted that he “really got drug tested because of y’all,” accompanied by two laughing emojis after fans noticed his muscular transformation during a press conference announcing his contract extension. This moment highlighted the sometimes amusing, yet serious, implications of athletes’ physical changes going viral.
It may be protocol for the league to immediately put players who rapidly change their physiques under a drug test as such changes will affect the game’s integrity. Moreover, Maxey’s averages last season (25.9 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 6.2 APG) is already impressive.
However, Maxey may have realized that postseason basketball is an entirely different beast, and he needs to impose himself better against his opponents if his team will have a shot at making the Finals.
If all goes well with Maxey’s body transformation, the Philadelphia 76ers will be one of the scariest teams to face in the NBA next season.
