The Phoenix Suns failed to live up to their high expectations last season despite having the trio of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker. This has led to rumors of a potential breakup due to their complicated cap situation, but the Phoenix Suns front office has constantly reiterated that this isn’t the case.
The latest to speak up on the matter is Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein, who said that Kevin Durant, in particular, remains committed to their project because he “loves it” there.
“So I talk to KD all the time about how his life is, about the Olympics, a lot of time we’re doing FaceTime audios in Easton Paris, and it’s, again, the coolest thing for me, I’m talking to Kevin Durant about basketball. Again, I pinch myself,” Bartelstein shared on the PHNX Suns podcast.
“But I think everyone’s head’s in the right place. He loves it here. We talk to Rich Kleiman, who’s his partner, all the time about the vision and what we’re building, and everyone’s really happy, and I think we’re gonna have a really really good year,” he concluded.
How long will Kevin Durant stay with the Phoenix Suns?
Kevin Durant has two years left on his four-year, $194.2 million contract originally signed when he was still with the Brooklyn Nets in 2023. The four-time Olympic gold medalist will make roughly $51 million in 2024-25 and $54 million in 2025-26 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
The Phoenix Suns star talked about retirement during the 2024 Olympics since he isn’t getting any younger. By the time he became an unrestricted free agent anew, he will be 38.
Durant can sign a one-year, $59.7 million extension with the Phoenix Suns if he decides to continue to play by then.
