Devin Booker may be the star for the Phoenix Suns, but he’s only one of the many outstanding players making up the Team USA roster in the 2024 Olympics. While he’s not taking on a leading role in the roster, he’s an active contributor to the team’s status as an overwhelming favorite to take home the gold.
While he and the rest of Team USA are cruising to the men’s basketball gold medal game, the same couldn’t be said with his Suns. Plenty of questions surround the squad after Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves made quick work of the team he, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal led last season.
The difficulty he and the Suns have experienced in their attempts to win an NBA title might make some fans reconsider if international competition is actually difficult when the entire USA program put their backs into it.
Booker put in his two cents into the conversation, and it’s one not many international fans would like hearing.
Devin Booker thinks winning the NBA title with the Phoenix Suns is tougher than getting gold for Team USA
In an interview with The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Booker revealed that he thinks winning in a league where the world’s best basketball athletes play is more difficult than international competition when the best players in the United States are suited up for Team USA.
NBACentral published his take on social media, which garnered various reactions from fans:
Devin Booker believes that becoming an NBA champion is more difficult than winning a gold medal
“I feel like all the best talent in the world is in the NBA, and this is coming from an Olympic gold medalist (who believes) that being an NBA champion is probably harder to do.”… pic.twitter.com/jLqHjgaBla

It’s not hard to see where he’s coming from. He’s almost won it all in 2021 where he averaged 27.3 PPG against a determined Milwaukee Bucks squad led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. Moreover, the fact that he and Durant lost against the Timberwolves shows how tough the league is even with such stars leading the squad.
Of course, fans of the international game will argue that FIBA rules are more stringent than the NBA, but it cannot be denied that they have steamrolled over every opponent they faced in the Games so far.
Booker’s case will be strengthened if Team USA does take home the gold. Otherwise, it would be an awkward couple of weeks for the Phoenix Suns star.
