Phoenix Suns Hope Kevin Durant Will Change His Mind About Minnesota

The Phoenix Suns are exploring options on how they can fix up a trade for All-Star forward Kevin Durant. This offseason, the Suns have made it known that they are willing to move on from Durant. The team’s experiment to run with the star forward, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal has not worked out well. In their second season together, Phoenix missed the 2025 NBA playoffs and didn’t even qualify for the Play-In Tournament.

Over the past week, there have been rumors regarding which teams would make a trade to acquire Durant. Amid all that, the Suns revealed three teams that the two-time champion prefers to play against as his four-year, $194 million contract is set to expire. The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets have been named the top teams that KD would prefer to play for if he gets dealt.

Aside from the teams mentioned, there are other organizations interested in KD. The Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the teams that have reached out to inquire about Durant. However, the 15-time All-Star made it known that he doesn’t want to play for the Wolves.

The Suns, meanwhile, are hoping the four-time scoring champion would change his mind about playing in Minnesota. This came after it was reported by The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski and Sam Amick that Phoenix isn’t satisfied with the offers they are receiving from KD’s preferred teams.

“With the offers from the Spurs, Rockets and Heat coming up short to this point, league sources say the Suns are still hopeful that Durant might warm to the Timberwolves possibility,” Durant said.

Joining the Wolves would be an ideal landing spot for Durant. The team made the Western Conference finals for two seasons in a row and is a contender for the NBA championship. It will also allow the Phoenix Suns star to team up with a rising star in Anthony Edwards.

Which Wolves players can be traded to the Phoenix Suns?

The Wolves have enough assets they can use to build a trade package to acquire the veteran All-Star. According to Michael Scotto, Minnesota can form a trade package with Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle for the Phoenix Suns forward.

“Phoenix is looking for an upgrade at center, which Minnesota can offer in Rudy Gobert. Theoretically, parting with Gobert would open up more playing time at center for former Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid, who views himself as a starter and is a priority for the Timberwolves to retain this summer, as previously reported on June 4th on HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

“Julius Randle, meanwhile, has a $30.94 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Randle was previously discussed in a potential trade package for Durant before the deadline along with guard Donte DiVincenzo, sources told HoopsHype and as reported in March.”

Scotto also suggested that a trade package including Rob Dillingham could be possible.
