The Phoenix Suns are looking to rebound from a disastrous playoff trip in the 2024-25 NBA season. With a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, there is optimism that he can make the Suns’ star-studded roster work.
As the leader among players, NBA superstar Kevin Durant is expected to guide the team through his words and actions. However, Durant doubled down on what Budenholzer said during the coach’s introduction presser last May. On Monday, Durant essentially said that words don’t matter to him and that he is all about what he and the Suns can do on the floor.
“I try to tell people that’s my whole life, whole career that talk is cheap,” Durant said, per Duane Rankin of AZ Central. “That’s what people look at as leadership, when you’re vocal or when they can see the emotions on your sleeve but it’s all about your movements and your intent and what you’re doing out there. For the most part, it’s about showing up and working hard.

Can Kevin Durant will the Phoenix Suns to an NBA championship?

Durant doesn’t have to talk to prove himself. He is a winner, who has two NBA titles, a Most Valuable Player award, and four Olympic gold medals. Durant, even at age 36, is very much capable of leading the Suns to the top, and that’s what people will be looking for him to deliver to The Valley, with or without him being vocal as a leader.
