It’s hard to imagine the 2025 NBA playoffs without Kevin Durant competing for the title. However, his Phoenix Suns have been anything but competitive this season.
One of the league’s most proficient scorers is poised to miss the postseason if the regular season were to end today. The Suns are nowhere near the playoff picture as they’re at least two games behind the tenth-ranked Sacramento Kings.

There are multiple reasons behind the team’s struggles. Bradley Beal’s failure to meet the production expected from his huge contract is a factor. However, the team also failed to make adjustments that keeps them competitive with Durant and Devin Booker in the roster.
While the Slim Reaper’s future looks to be a move away from the team in the summer, Durant is focused on winning and making the postseason with his current team.
He even made a claim that will drive discussion among fans who have watched him play for years.
Kevin Durant believes he’s the most egoless player in NBA history

With the Suns seemingly set to miss the postseason, some fans took the opportunity to roast the chronically online NBA star.
Durant got into a heated argument with one fan who blamed him for not putting his ego aside when he left the Golden State Warriors in 2019. During this exchange, Durant fired a noteworthy barb.
Per Fadeaway World’s Gautam Varier:
“I’m the most egoless player you’ve ever seen. Y’all just don’t know me well enough and let media corrupt your brains..shame on you.”
Varier also reported how Durant left the Warriors not because of the argument he had with Green. Instead, the organization’s handling of the issue was what convinced Durant to look elsewhere.
Some fans may not take kindly to how Durant perceived himself. Some Thunder fans may scoff at the idea of Durant being egoless when his pursuit of a championship pushed him to break apart his partnership with Russell Westbrook in 2016.
Meanwhile, Warriors fans might not take kindly to the idea that Durant wasn’t hard to deal with. His final year with the Dubs definitely pushed things over the edge, but the adjustments Stephen Curry had to make just to get Durant his touches may seem contradictory to his statement.

Such narratives will continue to persist even if Durant manages to take the Suns to the play-in tournament. The only way he can make everyone quiet is with a championship.
