There have been talks about Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and his future with the organization. Following an abysmal 2024-25 NBA season, there are expectations that the veteran star could force his way out of Phoenix and join a contending team. As the offseason approaches, there have been rumors about the potential end to the partnership between Durant and the Suns following the NBA Finals.

Durant played his second full season with the Suns and appeared in 62 games. He averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds and 4.2 assists on 43 percent shooting from deep. Despite his efforts (together with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal) to lead Phoenix to the postseason, it wasn’t enough.

They had one of the toughest schedules following the All-Star break. It took a toll on the Suns’ Big 3 and held them back from finishing their campaign in an ideal situation.

According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, there have been conversations about the Suns possibly trading Kevin Durant to another Western Conference team. The franchise that has been linked to the Phoenix star is the Houston Rockets.

“This is not to say the Rockets and Suns are not in communication,” Iko wrote. “On the contrary, Phoenix is aggressive in pursuit of a) trading Kevin Durant and b) regaining full control if their draft capital starting with the No. 10 pikc in next month’s draft, team sources said.

Iko also reported that the Phoenix Suns have lowered their asking price for Durant, who has one year left in his four-year, $194.2 million contract.

“There is a price where the Rockets would be interested, but with a fear of breaking up their roster for a 36-year-old coming off injury, doubt remains over a deal materializing.”

Per @KellyIko: Rockets-Suns are talking. PHX is actively trying to move Kevin Durant and reclaim control of its draft picks including the No. 10 in next month’s draft. The Rockets finished the season as the second-best team in the Western Conference. However, they struggled against the Golden State Warriors and were eliminated in the first round of the postseason.

An NBA reporter encourages the Phoenix Suns to keep Booker

One of the Phoenix Suns players who has been rumored to be dealt this offseason, aside from KD, is Devin Booker. After a season where Booker wasn’t recognized as an All-Star and didn’t get selected for any of the All-NBA teams, there have been rumblings about him being a trade target for the Rockets.

However, Bleacher Report’s Gant Hughes discourages the Suns from trading their franchise star.

“Don’t expect the Phoenix Suns to sell Booker’s stock, particularly when it seems to be trading near its five-year lows,” Hughes wrote. “Phoenix obviously has to do something to free up flexibility as it heads into 2025-26 toting a second-apron price tag and lacking the draft picks to a) trade its way out of trouble, or b) justify a tank. But the Suns will work hard to deal Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal (if he chooses not to exercise his no-trade powers) before they move down the triage chart to Booker.”

Booker finished the season with 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists in the Suns’ second attempt to make the star trio work.
