Everyone will agree that the Minnesota Timberwolves’ ruthless manhandling of the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2024 playoffs was downright embarrassing. A team with a star trio of offensive juggernauts failed to even take a game from the Wolves raised plenty of questions.
One of the biggest weaknesses that got exposed during the series was their lack of a solid playmaker. While Devin Booker is a decent point guard, he works best when another player is handling the floor general duties.
They are reportedly working on getting Kyle Lowry to join the squad, but they have signed a superb point guard who can contribute to the team off the bench. The player in question is also eager to start working with a solid group of guys.
Monte Morris looks forward to playing with the Phoenix Suns in the 2024-25 season
Monte Morris isn’t the point guard Suns fans hoped to get if you solely look at the numbers. However, he isn’t coming in with the expectation that he’ll be the starting PG for the squad.
After the Suns moved for the guard who helped the Timberwolves sweep the Suns on a team-friendly deal, he expressed his happiness to get a new opportunity with the team.
Per Go PHNX’s Gerald Bourguet:
“I think Phoenix was the perfect spot for me as far as opportunity, and just a chance to compete with a great team, a great coach, and get a chance to win a championship,” Morris said.
He also talked about what fans can expect from him in the coming season:
“I think it’ll be amazing,” Morris said. “I think it’s right on time, especially with me not having the year I wanted to despite injury and all those things. Just having that hunger back and just that drive to just show the league that I’m still that same player, that the injuries last year was a fluke. But I think it was a blessing in disguise for me to have this opportunity.”
He hasn’t been the guard that helped the Denver Nuggets make deep playoff runs due to injury, but he was serviceable as a rotation piece for the Timberwolves. In the 27 games he played for the Wolves, he averaged 5.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a game.
If he continues his trajectory, it won’t be strange to see him inch closer to his numbers with the Nuggets, and that alone will make the Phoenix Suns a terrifying team to face against.
