Los Angeles Lakers icon James Worthy believes that Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant should be in the Greatest of All-Time (GOAT) conversation, usually dominated by Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
In an interview with ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly, the three-time NBA champion and 1988 Finals MVP said Durant deserves it because his body of work speaks for itself.
“I’ve loved him since Texas. You know, Steph shoots the three, but Durant is cold-blooded at his height. He hasn’t been forgotten about, but he’s just been schmoozing along, and he still can put up numbers,” Worthy said.
“I just love his range, the way he can move out to the three. You can’t stop him in the mid-range game. He’s a pretty good defensive player, and he doesn’t get talked enough about. If you’re talking like, top seven guys who can be the greatest of all time, he’s in there in my opinion. He’s just a phenomenal player,” he added.
Kevin Durant is enjoying a productive summer, as he just won his fourth Olympic gold medal in Paris, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players ever to represent Team USA.
Kevin Durant can add to his resume by winning an NBA title with the Phoenix Suns
To James Worthy’s point, Kevin Durant can make a case for being in the GOAT conversation with his glittering resume, including two NBA titles, two Finals MVPs, one regular season MVP, 14 NBA All-Star selections, two NBA All-Star Game MVPs, six All-NBA First Team selections, five All-NBA Second team selections, and four NBA scoring titles, among others.
Even though he’ll turn 36 soon, Kevin Durant has shown no signs of slowing down.
The Phoenix Suns are expected to contend in the Western Conference next season, and if Durant leads them to their first-ever title in franchise history, there’s no doubt he will be up there in the GOAT talks.
