Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant‘s quest for a gold medal with Team USA is off to a bad start. This is after reports emerged on Sunday that the former NBA MVP is currently dealing with a concerning injury that has forced him to miss the start of training camp in Las Vegas.
At this point, it remains unclear if this injury will impact Durant’s availability for the upcoming Olympics later this month.
Phoenix Suns News: Kevin Durant Dealing With Strained Calf
According to a report by Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Durant was unable to take part in Team USA’s first two training sessions due to a calf injury:
“Team USA star Kevin Durant missed the first two days of training camp with a calf strain, league sources told The Athletic on Sunday,” read the report.
Calf problems can be tricky, and KD is no spring chicken. The issue does not sound serious, but it won’t be a surprise if Durant is held out for a few more days (or longer?) as he recovers from his latest knock.
‘An Abundance of Caution’
True enough, Team USA head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the fact that they will be erring on the side of caution on the Durant front:
“We’re just going to use an abundance of caution,” Kerr said. “It’s not bad. He’s assuring me that it’s not bad. We’re just going to be really careful and take it day by day.”
The Americans have an exhibition game against Canada coming up on Wednesday, but reports indicate that Durant’s status for that one remains up in the air.
